Whole-house filtration in Bali serves a different purpose from drinking water RO. The goal is to protect appliances and plumbing from sediment and scale, and to remove chlorine taste from PDAM-supplied properties. It's not designed to produce drinking-quality water on its own — it's the foundation that makes everything downstream work better and last longer. A whole-house sediment filter in a Bali villa reduces scale buildup in the water heater, improves washing machine performance, and protects the RO pre-filters downstream from overloading. It's worth installing as the first step in any Bali water treatment setup.
Whole-House Filtration Components
Sediment Pre-Filter
20-micron then 5-micron staged sediment filtration at the property entry point. Removes sand, rust particles, silt and larger particulates from well water before it reaches any appliances or secondary treatment stages. Critical for Bali well water — sediment loads are higher than municipal supply, and unfiltered sediment blocks RO membranes and damages pump seals within months.
Carbon Block Filter
Activated carbon block reduces chlorine (relevant for PDAM-supplied properties), chloramines, organic compounds and taste/odour issues. For well water properties, the carbon stage is mainly for taste improvement and organic compound reduction rather than chlorine removal.
Scale Inhibitor (Anti-Scale)
Template-assisted crystallisation (TAC) media or polyphosphate dosing changes the form of dissolved calcium so it doesn't deposit as hard scale on heating elements and heat exchanger surfaces. Not a softener — doesn't remove calcium from the water, but prevents it from bonding to surfaces. Lower maintenance than a salt-based softener; less effective for very hard water above 300 ppm hardness.
System Housing & Installation
All filters installed in a single housing bank at the property entry point — mains supply or pump outlet. Includes shut-off valves, pressure gauges, and bypass connections so individual filters can be serviced without interrupting water supply.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often do I replace a whole-house filter in Bali?
Sediment pre-filters every 3–4 months in Bali's well water (more frequent in the wet season when turbidity increases). Carbon block every 6 months. Scale inhibitor media every 6–12 months depending on water hardness. We provide a maintenance schedule specific to your source water at installation.
Does a whole-house filter make water safe to drink?
A whole-house sediment and carbon filter improves taste and protects appliances but does not remove dissolved minerals, heavy metals or biological contamination from well water. For drinking water, an under-sink RO or UV stage is needed after the whole-house pre-filtration.
